Jailer 2 OTT Deal Reportedly Breaks Records at ₹160 Crore

Jailer 2, the sequel to Rajinikanth’s 2023 blockbuster Jailer, has been making headlines for multiple reasons in recent weeks. From uncertainty around its release date and shooting delays to speculation about cameo appearances, the film has been surrounded by constant buzz. Adding to the concerns, a video clip from the film was recently leaked online, surprising both the makers and fans.

Amid this, a major update from Kollywood circles has grabbed attention. Reports suggest that streaming giant Amazon Prime Video has acquired the digital rights of Jailer 2 for a staggering ₹160 crore. If true, this would mark the highest OTT deal ever for a Tamil film, surpassing previous records set by films like Jailer, Leo, Thug Life, and Coolie.

The deal appears even more significant considering that the same platform reportedly paid around ₹75 crore for the first Jailer in 2023. Negotiations for the sequel’s digital rights are said to have been ongoing for nearly a year. Notably, Coolie, Rajinikanth’s project with Lokesh Kanagaraj, had earlier secured a deal worth around ₹120 crore, which now seems to have been overtaken.

Though Sun Pictures has not officially confirmed the deal, industry buzz strongly points toward a record-breaking agreement. Given the massive success of the first installment—directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and grossing over ₹600 crore worldwide—the high valuation for the sequel appears credible.

If these reports hold true, Jailer 2 could recover a substantial portion of its budget even before its theatrical release. This development is also expected to further boost the film’s hype, especially amid ongoing speculation about its release timeline.

Interestingly, similar figures were earlier rumored for Spirit, starring Prabhas and directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, though those reports were never officially confirmed.

Jailer 2 will see Rajinikanth reprise his role as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, with key cast members like Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa, and Vinayakan returning. S. J. Suryah is set to play the main antagonist, while Shiva Rajkumar and Vijay Sethupathi are expected to reprise their cameo roles. Additionally, Mohanlal will return as Mathew, adding to the film’s star power.
