Pooja Hegde Makes Tollywood Comeback with Dulquer Salmaan
It’s been over three years since Pooja Hegde last appeared in a Telugu film, but the actress is making a much-awaited return with the upcoming project Jana Nayagan, starring Dulquer Salmaan in the lead. In recent years, Pooja faced criticism for her choice of roles, especially after the commercial failure of Retro, leaving many to question when she would bounce back.
Pooja’s rise to stardom was built on Telugu cinema. Early films like Oka Laila Kosam and Mukunda gave her exposure, but it was DJ that introduced her to commercial audiences. Subsequent successes like Maharshi and Aravinda Sametha Veera Raghava cemented her position as a top heroine, and Ala Vaikunthapurramulo established her at the pinnacle of Tollywood. However, a string of flops including Most Eligible Bachelor, Radhe Shyam, Beast, and Acharya, along with her brief Bollywood stint in Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, caused her career momentum to dip. Even Cirkus, Deva, and Retro failed to revive her standing.
Her performance in the Monica song from Coolie brought her back into the spotlight, and with Jana Nayagan, Pooja has another chance to reclaim success. Co-starring Dulquer Salmaan, who has been a lucky charm for many actresses like Mrunal Thakur and Meenakshi Chaudhary, this film could mark a stylish comeback for her.
The first look of DQ41 suggests that Pooja will portray a “girl-next-door” character with simple, relatable looks. The film is directed by debutant Ravi Nelakuditi and is produced under the banner of SLV Cinemas.
If Jana Nayagan becomes a hit in January, it could provide a significant boost to Pooja’s career, reaffirming her status as one of Tollywood’s leading heroines.
