Janhvi Kapoor has been navigating Bollywood since her debut in Dhadak (2018), but the past couple of years haven’t been particularly kind to her. One flop after another—Mr. & Mrs. Mahi, Param Sundari, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari—even with backing from big banners like Dharma and Maddock, nothing quite clicked.
Interestingly, Tollywood seems to be treating her better than her home turf. Her Devara: Part 1 turned into a massive blockbuster, and now she’s teaming up with Ram Charan for Peddi. The first song, Chikiri Chikiri, is already making waves, dominating playlists and social media.
Recently, Odela 2 director Ashok Teja made a remark that stirred some debate. He suggested that Janhvi should consider focusing on Tollywood, where she already has strong support and the goodwill inherited from being Late Sridevi’s daughter. Indeed, Sridevi’s popularity in the Telugu states during the 90s was immense, and that lingering affection could give Janhvi a significant advantage here—potentially more than in Bollywood at present.
The comment divided opinions. While some of Janhvi’s fans felt it crossed a line, others agreed it wasn’t entirely off-base. Bollywood hasn’t offered her much breathing space recently, whereas Tollywood continues to deliver hits and generate buzz for her. With her second Tollywood outing already creating anticipation that could surpass her debut, it remains to be seen how Janhvi chooses to interpret this advice—guidance or noise. Either way, her career trajectory in the coming years will be interesting to watch.
