
Bollywood actress Janhvi Kapoor has brought pride to India as her latest film, Homebound, has been officially selected as the country’s entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 2026 Academy Awards. The Film Federation of India announced the news on September 20, generating excitement among fans and the film fraternity alike.
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Neeraj Ghaywan and produced by director-actor Karan Johar, Homebound tells the compelling story of two young men from rural India striving for government jobs while confronting challenges rooted in caste and religion. Drawing inspiration from real-life events, the film highlights the struggles of ordinary people in their pursuit of dignity and equality. Janhvi Kapoor described her role in the project as “a reward of my life,” emphasizing her deep connection to the story.
The film has already garnered international recognition, premiering at the Cannes Film Festival to a standing ovation in May and winning the second runner-up award in the People’s Choice category at the Toronto International Film Festival. Praising the film’s achievements, Karan Johar congratulated the team on Instagram, calling the Oscar selection “an honor.”
