Playback singer Chinmayi Sripada has been subjected to relentless online abuse following comments made by her filmmaker husband Rahul Ravindran about her personal choice of wearing a mangalsutra during promotions for his film The Girlfriend.

The couple has faced weeks of targeted harassment, which escalated when a morphed image of Chinmayi was circulated online. On Wednesday night, the singer reported the incident to the Hyderabad Police.

“I received a morphed image from a page today and tagged the cops. Whether legal action happens or not is secondary. I made this video for girls and their families, to protect themselves from these ‘Laja Muda’ trolls who have been paid for the last 8–10 weeks to harass our family,” Chinmayi wrote.

She also revealed that even her children have received death threats, underscoring the severity and viciousness of the ongoing online harassment.
