Jeethu Joseph, the celebrated filmmaker behind Mohanlal’s iconic Drishyam franchise, is currently working on the much-awaited Drishyam 3.
Speaking at the Manorama News Conclave, Jeethu candidly admitted that he has grown “tired” of following the same formula of twists and suspense. Promising a fresh approach this time, he clarified, “It will be clear to viewers that I didn’t do it for the money.”
The director revealed that Drishyam 3 will bring a new perspective to Georgekutty’s story, with the thrills unfolding more “naturally” within the family’s journey. “Audiences will understand the difference when they see the film,” he said, stressing that the narrative won’t simply rely on the familiar pattern of surprise elements.
Jeethu also spoke about his creative fatigue with formulaic thrillers. “I’m bored of doing films in the same pattern. In Telugu cinema, they ask for a climactic twist. In Tamil, they demand logic. It’s become too much,” he remarked. Looking ahead, he expressed a desire to explore different cinematic spaces beyond constant twists and logical puzzles.
Interestingly, the director hinted that Drishyam 4 could also happen in the future, though he has not yet formed a clear vision for it. He revealed that the climactic moments of both Drishyam 2 and Drishyam 3 came to him first, even before shaping the full stories. Recalling a conversation with Mohanlal after the screening of Drishyam 2, Jeethu said, “I told Lalettan the climax idea for the third part — and he loved it.”
With Jeethu promising a refreshing take, expectations are sky-high for Drishyam 3, as fans eagerly await another gripping chapter in Georgekutty’s saga.
