Rajinikanth Fan Celebrates Pongal at Home Temple with 300-Kg Idol

A devoted Rajinikanth fan from Madurai celebrated Pongal in a truly unique and heartfelt manner by offering special prayers at a temple dedicated to the superstar inside his own home. Karthik, a self-proclaimed die-hard admirer of Thalaivar, has been observing the harvest festival at this shrine along with his family for the past few years, expressing his deep respect and devotion to the legendary actor.
The home temple, established a few years ago, features a massive 300-kg idol of Rajinikanth. For Karthik, Rajini is far more than a cinema icon — he is a figure of reverence, worshipped with the same devotion as a deity. This year marked the third consecutive Pongal celebration at the Arulmigu Sri Rajini Temple, complete with traditional rituals that mirror village-style festivities.
Speaking to ANI, Karthik explained that Pongal is a festival that honours farmers, agriculture, and rural life. He said the celebrations were designed to recreate the authentic village atmosphere that many people miss after moving to urban areas. As part of the festivities, a special scene inspired by the film Muthu was recreated, depicting Rajinikanth seated on a bullock cart, reminiscent of his iconic horse-cart sequence in the movie.
The idol received elaborate festive decorations, using elements closely associated with Pongal. Karthik shared that vegetables such as carrots and beans were used to adorn the statue, while a striking image of Padayappa Rajini was created using nine varieties of grains (navadhanyam). Both the main idol and the processional idol were further embellished with garlands made of tomatoes and dried dates, adding a traditional and symbolic touch.
Pongal, one of the most important festivals celebrated by Tamils across the world, is a thanksgiving festival dedicated to nature, the Sun God, farm animals, and farmers. It symbolises prosperity, gratitude, and family bonding. To support the festive spirit, the Tamil Nadu government had announced a Pongal gift hamper for eligible beneficiaries, which included one kilogram each of raw rice and sugar, along with a full-length sugarcane.
