Veteran actor Kamal Haasan officially stepped into politics at the national level as he took oath as a Rajya Sabha MP on June 12, backed by the DMK-led alliance. Choosing to speak in Tamil, Kamal made his entry into Parliament in a way that reflected his deep roots and cultural pride.
His daughter, actress Shruti Haasan, was present in Delhi to witness the moment and later shared an emotional note on social media. Calling it a memory “forever etched” in her heart, Shruti expressed immense pride in her father’s new journey and spoke about the strength and conviction in his voice as he addressed Parliament.
Kamal Haasan, on his part, dedicated this honor to the people of Tamil Nadu. He said he was carrying the voices, hopes, and values of his people and ancestors to Delhi. Recalling his father’s role in the freedom struggle, Kamal vowed to uphold justice, dignity, and self-respect while drawing inspiration from leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, and Periyar.
This Rajya Sabha nomination also fulfilled a political promise made during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, marking the beginning of a significant new chapter in Kamal Haasan’s public life.
