Veteran actor Kamal Haasan’s recent comments at the Thug Life event, where he stated that Kannada originated from Tamil, have sparked major backlash in Karnataka. The remark has led to widespread protests, legal action, and a ban on the film’s release in the state. Fans and political groups have been demanding a public apology, but Kamal Haasan has remained silent on the matter so far.
Amid this controversy, actor Rana Daggubati broke his silence during the promotions of Rana Naidu Season 2. Speaking about the incident, Rana reflected on the growing trend of outrage culture. “Social media has become a space where every word is amplified into a headline,” he remarked. “What was once a simple opinion now quickly turns into a full-blown political issue.”
Despite the buzz, Thug Life was released across several regions today—excluding Karnataka. The absence of a Karnataka release has reportedly caused the film to lose approximately ₹12.5 crore in potential revenue. There are rumors that Kamal Haasan might consider taking the matter to the Supreme Court, though no official statement has been issued.
Meanwhile, Kamal remains immersed in various film projects. However, tensions between the Kannada audience and the iconic actor show no signs of easing, and the controversy surrounding his linguistic remarks continues to simmer.
