Kangana Ranaut has always been known for her outspoken nature—never hesitating to call out even the most powerful people in Bollywood or politics. Hailing from Manali, Himachal Pradesh, Kangana’s journey was never easy. She had to face humiliation, rejection, and harassment while trying to establish herself as a heroine. Even before that, she had to defy her conservative family to move to Mumbai and fight for her independence.
In many interviews, Kangana revealed that she came from a traditional household and it was her sister Rangoli who stood firmly by her side, especially during legal battles and controversies. Most people know about Rangoli and Kangana’s younger brother Akshat, but very few are aware that Kangana also had an elder brother.
In a recent interview, Kangana shocked everyone by sharing that her parents’ first child—a baby boy—died just ten days after birth. He was born healthy, weighing 3.5 kg, but passed away due to medical negligence. Kangana’s mother believes it happened because the nurse mishandled the umbilical cord. This tragedy left her family devastated, and from then on, childbirth in hospitals was strictly prohibited in their household. Her grandmother even announced that no woman in the family would ever give birth in a hospital again. As a result, Kangana, her siblings, and even cousins were all born at home.
Kangana also recalled how patriarchal traditions affected her childhood. She said elders used to claim that if the eldest daughter was not raised properly, it would negatively impact the marriages of younger daughters in the family. Such comments often made her feel lonely and alienated from her siblings.
Sharing a deeply personal memory, Kangana spoke about the time she experienced delayed menstruation during school. While most girls between grades 6–9 had already started their cycles, hers hadn’t begun. Her mother, believing superstitions, thought it was because of the dollhouse Kangana built and ordered it to be thrown away. Later, one morning, Kangana woke up to find blood all over her clothes and surroundings. Her mother rejoiced that she had finally attained puberty, but Kangana admitted she was terrified.
Through these revelations, Kangana not only shared unknown aspects of her family and upbringing but also shed light on the struggles of growing up as a girl in a deeply traditional society.
