After the success of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani in 2023, filmmaker Karan Johar has officially confirmed his return to the director’s chair. In a candid revelation, he shared, “Yes, I am returning to direction. That is my actual calling. Everything else I do is secondary. You’d be surprised how often people ask me when I’m directing again — so here’s the answer: in 2026, I’m making a film.”
While Karan didn’t reveal the title or cast, he hinted at a fresh creative direction. “Yes, I’ve locked the idea, but all I can say for now is that it’s completely different from Rocky Aur Rani…”
Currently riding high on the success of the reality show The Traitor, Karan reflected on his journey and admitted he had lost touch with his core passion — filmmaking. “When I look at my filmography, I realize Rocky Aur Rani… was just my seventh film as a director in 25 years. That’s not a great record for someone who truly loves making movies,” he confessed. “My last release before that was Ae Dil Hai Mushkil in 2016. That gap was just plain ridiculous.”
Clarifying that his absence wasn’t due to laziness, Karan explained that he had been focused on growing Dharma Productions and pursuing various creative and business ventures. “I was deeply involved in building my company and doing a variety of things — which I now realize might have pulled me away from what I love most. I did enjoy all of it, but now, my full attention will be on directing films.”
Karan Johar’s return to direction in 2026 is already sparking curiosity, and fans are eagerly waiting to see what new cinematic world he will bring to life.
