Senior Congress MLA and former Karnataka Assembly Speaker K R Ramesh Kumar had sparked controversy by saying “enjoy rape when it is inevitable” inside the Karnataka Assembly. His heinous comments have triggered outrage all the way to Delhi.
Now, Ramesh Kumar has apologised for his contentious remarks in the assembly. “If it hurts the sentiments of women, I’ve no problem apologising. I apologize sincerely,” said the senior legislator.
“I would like to express my sincere apologies to everyone for the indifferent and negligent comment I made in today’s assembly about “Rape!” My intention was not trivialise or make light of the heinous crime, but an off the cuff remark! I will choose my words carefully henceforth!” he posted on his Twitter.
Ramesh Kumar’s remarks were condemned by a number of legislators, including women members of his party. Meanwhile, the video has already gone viral on social media. Many demanded that the MLA should be suspended and not give him a ticket in the next elections.
Terming the comment “shameful”, Union Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani on Friday slammed Ramesh Kumar, daring Congress Party to dismiss the legislator from the party.
