In the FIR filed by the police, TVK General Secretary N Anand has been named, but Vijay himself remains untouched. Some may question why the party founder is not being held accountable if the General Secretary can be booked. The official explanation is that the case concerns TVK officials who requested permission for the meeting—yet it’s hard to imagine such a request happening without Vijay’s approval.
The underlying reason is likely strategic: the DMK recognizes that taking Vijay into custody would generate massive publicity for the actor, potentially damaging the party’s electoral prospects. By holding lower-ranking leaders responsible while allowing Vijay to remain free, the DMK can redirect public anger towards the tragedy itself rather than create a wave of sympathy for him.
This careful approach contrasts with the political misstep seen in Andhra Pradesh, where YS Jagan’s handling of Chandrababu Naidu’s arrest led to an outpouring of sympathy for the former chief minister. Clearly, the DMK is intent on avoiding a similar political blunder.
