Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s daughter and MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha generally maintains a low profile, compared to her brother, though she is very active in the social media.
But not many people were aware that she can also write poems, until she came up with one on Thursday, extending solidarity with Muslim women, who are fighting for their right to wear hijab (scarf) on their heads.
Kavitha has made an appeal to the parents and young girls to not let any political vendetta deter their dreams. Responding to the controversy over hijab, she shared a poem on her social media handle.
She took to Twitter to present the poem “Hum Sab Hindustani.” She said despite the actions of divisive forces, we are all one – we are Indians.
In the poem, Kavitha said: “If wearing Sindoor is my right, Muskan’s hijab is her right. Let women decide what they are comfortable in embracing and wearing.” She also used the hashtag #Don’tTeachUs” to spread the message.
She let’s keep politics out of schools & colleges. I’m a married woman, I put vermilion whenever I want, it’s a choice. As a society, we’ve no right to interfere in their personal choice.
She further added, in a country like India which is a melting point and amalgamation of religious beliefs, it’s important that we become tolerant.
She also made an appeal to the parents and young girls to not let any political vendetta deter their dreams.
