KCR cancels Huzurnagar rally: RTC effect?

The proposed public meeting of Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao at Huzurnagar on Thursday has been cancelled.

KCR was to address a huge rally in the evening as part of the party campaign in the by-elections to Huzurnagar assembly seat, which was vacated by Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt N Uttam Kumar Reddy on his election to the Lok Sabha.

The TRS leaders made elaborate arrangements for the meeting spending lakhs of rupees and were expected to mobilise at least a lakh of people to the meeting.

However, an official release from the Chief Minister’s Office said KCR’s meeting at Huzurnagar has been cancelled.

The office also sent a letter written by Director of Aviation V N Bharat Reddy to the CMO stating that it was not advisable for the CM to fly to Huzurnagar due to adverse weather conditions.

The letter said there would be heavy rain and thunder storms in Huzurnagar and surrounding areas, accompanied by lightning, squally winds and a possible cloud burst.

“There will be reduced flight visibility and weather conditions are detrimental to flight safety. Hence, it is not advisable for the CM to fly to Huzurnagar,” Bharat said in the letter.

However, there has been a talk in the party circles for the last two days that KCR might not address the Huzurnagar rally, as intelligence reports indicated that he might face strong protests from the people in the wake of RTC strike.

The party leaders were also not confident of mobilising huge crowds to the meeting in the wake of lack of transport facilities and also reluctance of the people to attend the rally. They conveyed the same to KCR.

It is learnt even the chief minister told the party colleagues that he did not mind losing the Huzurnagar assembly seat, but would not succumb to the pressures of the RTC employees’ strike.
