KCR, Jagan To Meet To Settle Disputes?

If the reports doing rounds in a section of media are to be believed, Telangana CM KCR and his Andhra counterpart Jagan have decided to meet one-on-one to resolve the water disputes without knocking the doors of the Centre.

According to these reports, KCR and Jagan are likely to have a meeting in Hyderabad in the last week of this month in the presence of senior irrigation officials of both the states to discuss and come to an understanding on the Krishna and Godavari river water sharing.

Both the CMs were supposed to meet through video conference at the apex council meeting convened by Union Jal Sakthi minister Gajendra Singh Shekawat from New Delhi on Tuesday, but the meeting was postponed due to the Central minister testing positive for Covid-19.

The apex council meeting is likely to be rescheduled to the second week of September, subject to the health condition of the minister. However, both the CMs are learnt to have decided to meet one-on-one even before they go to the apex council meeting.

It is not exactly known which chief minister has moved the proposal first, but if the reports are to be believed, the meeting is likely to be held at the earliest, most probably by this month end.

“The agenda is getting ready. Once it is done, the exact date will be announced,” sources said.

It remains to be seen whether the two states would resolve the water issues at the CMs’ meeting or they could continue to stick to their guns.
