Telangana CM KCR and AP CM YS Jagan are likely to meet on September 24th over issues pertaining to the Telugu states. The agenda of this meeting is the interlinking of rivers and addressing the remaining bifurcation issues. Along with the CMs, irrigation officials of both the states and other officials are expected to participate.
In the past a committee was appointed to study the case of diverting Godavari water to Srisailam dam. Irrigation officials of Telangana and AP were made part of this committee but they proposed completely opposite recommendations. AP officials said that Telangana government should allot land for diverting the Godavari water while Telangana officials said, AP should build reservoirs and expand their canal’s size. With a difference in opinion, the committee failed to prepare a report.
Telangana CM KCR is said to be pushing this committee to come up with new proposals before he meets his counterpart. However, KCR is in thoughts of using Godavari water to the extend for Telangana and this might affect the Pattiseema project. So KCR and Jagan are considering to announce Pattiseema as a joint project of the Telugu states.
But this decision may invite controversy and AP TDP is questioning YSRCP’s stand which had opposed Pattiseema project in the past.
