Keerthy Suresh on Legacy, Instinct, and Her Acting Journey

National Award-winning actress Keerthy Suresh, acclaimed for her powerful portrayal of legendary actress Savitri in Mahanati, believes that while a film family background can provide a platform, it is talent, choices, and instinct that truly shape an actor’s journey.

Daughter of veteran actress Menaka, Keerthy has steadily built a name for herself across South Indian cinema. Reflecting on the notion of legacy during a recent media interaction, she said, “Legacy has nothing to do with my choices. The scripts I select and the genres I want to explore come entirely from instinct, not from where I come from.”

Acknowledging that growing up in a film family comes with its own set of expectations, Keerthy was clear about not letting that become a burden. “Yes, there is a sense of responsibility, and people expect more from you. But I believe no one should let that pressure define their career,” she asserted.

For Keerthy, legacy serves as a launchpad—not a limitation. “It gives me a route, a starting point. But it doesn’t impose boundaries or grant any special talent. Everything else depends on hard work and learning,” she explained.

She credited her mother, actress Menaka, as the key inspiration behind her decision to become an artist. “The one part of my journey truly influenced by legacy was the decision to pursue acting—and that came from my mother,” she said with gratitude.

In recent years, Keerthy Suresh has made her mark in Tollywood with successful films like Nenu Local, Nenu Sailaja, and Sarkaru Vaari Paata, steadily cementing her position as one of the most bankable and versatile female leads in South Indian cinema.
