Kesineni’s letter to Chandrababu: Another drama like Butchaiah Chowdary’s?

Why did Kesineni Nani tell TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu that he would not contest the 2024 elections? In a letter written to Chandrababu Naidu, Nani said that neither he nor his daughter Shwetha would be contesting for the Vijayawada Lok Sabha seat in 2024. He has even asked Chandrababu Naidu to look for an alternative candidate.

Sources say Kesineni Nani was upset at the non-cooperation from former MLA Bonda Uma and former MLC Buddha Venkana. He was angry that the duo did not cooperate with him in his quest to make his daughter Shwetha the mayor of Vijayawada. Due to their non-cooperation, the party could not do well in the VMC elections. Though Shwetha won as a corporator, the TDP coul not win enough seats to have its mayoral candidate elected. To show his displeasure, Nani has told Chandrababu that he might not contest in 2024.

On Tuesday, Nani, who was on a vacation, has returned to Vijayawada. A large number of his supporters stormed the Kesineni Nani Bhavan and demanded that he take back the letter. They raised slogans saying that they cannot imagine a TDP without Nani. Kesineni tried to pacify them but did not give them any assurance. It appears that he would speak only after meeting Chandrababu Naidu and raising his concerns with him.

Political observers say that this incident is like a storm in a tea cup. They say that this is much like Rajahmundry MLA Butchaiah Chowdary’s revolt. He offered to resign but took back his decision soon after meeting Chandrababu Naidu.
