Now Rohit Sharma is all set to start a new chapter in his career. He was named the skipper for the T20 format as Virat Kohli’s successor. The forthcoming home series against New Zealand marks Rohit Sharma’s era as the captain.
Talking about Rohit’s new role, Vice-captain KL Rahul said, Rohit had a remarkable journey in the Indian Premier League(IPL) by winning five titles for the team. The stats say he has a better understanding of the game and he is good at the tactics, KL Rahul said.
Saying that Rohit Sharma has proved himself as a leader, KL Rahul said the team is excited to play under him as he brings a state of calmness into the dressing room, something that everyone loves about Rohit Sharma. This is a big change and we are eagerly waiting for this, he said.
Ahead of the series, KL Rahul addressed a press conference. Talking about former Indian player, current head coach of Indian team Rahul Dravid, KL Rahul said he has known him for a long time and he is feeling fortunate for this.
KL Rahul recalled how he played under Rahul David in India A and called Dravid a person who aims at creating an atmosphere that helps everyone to better themselves as persons and cricketers. He brings a culture to put the team ahead of personal goals, he added.
India and New Zealand will lock horns for a T20 series followed by a Test series. Star players like Virat Kohli, Bumrah, Jadeja, Shami were rested for the series while a few players were given a call into the T 20 team. For the Test series, the BCCI had not picked Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant. Ajinkya Rahane will lead the team for the Test series. Virat Kohli will join the squad for the second test.
