The Andhra Pradesh government made many heads turn with the decision to add more districts and take the total number of districts in the state to 26. The decision is receiving mixed responses from everyone. Out of all the districts one district has caught up in a controversy.
The temple city Vijayawada was made the new district and Vijayawada will be the headquarters. Vijayawada was named after Legendary Tollywood actor and former Chief Minister Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao aka NTR. Nandamuri fans and TDP sympathisers are welcoming the decision.
However few Kapu leaders objected to the decision to name Vijayawada after NTR and demanded that it should be named after another prominent leader Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga.
They have been demanding the Andhra Pradesh government to consider their request and rename the Vijayawada district. The likes of Vangaveeti Narendra have placed the demand before the government.
Amid growing demand Andhra Pradesh Minister for Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Kodali Nani had responded to the issue and said that CM Jagan had fulfilled the promise he made
