Whether it is a coincidence or a calculated move, within a day of YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy winning the assembly elections with a massive mandate, the young man, who allegedly attacked him with a knife at Visakhapatnam airport on October 25, got the bail.
An NIA special court in Vijayawada granted bail J Srinivasa Rao on Friday and he was released from Rajahmundry jail on Saturday. He was asked to submit a personal bond of Rs 30,000 and surety of two persons.
The alleged attack on Jagan’s life, which was propagated by the pro-Telugu Desam Party media as “Kodi Kathi” case because the attack was made with a small knife used in cockfights, became a big news for quite some time.
Though then state government entrusted the case to Special Investigation Team of the Andhra police, YSRC rejected it.
Subsequently, it was handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), but it could not find any evidence of any conspiracy behind the attack and Srinivas Rao, who had been in jail since he was arrested immediately after the attack, only told the police that he had no intention of killing Jagan.
Srinivas told the media that he didn’t attack Jagan and claimed that he went to him just to give a letter.
Following the investigation, the NIA officials submitted a report to NIA court in Vijayawada. As the charges were not proved, the court released Srinivas on bail.
In all probability, the case is expected to fizzle out for want of any evidence.
