Anupama Parameswaran’s Paradha Banks on Honest Reviews
Reviews play a decisive role in shaping the fate of films, particularly smaller ones. While big-budget movies with star power often manage to pull in audiences regardless of initial reviews, smaller films rely heavily on critical reception and strong word-of-mouth to get noticed. This is especially true for Anupama Parameswaran’s upcoming release, Paradha.
Set to release in theaters on August 22, Paradha is a social drama featuring Anupama in the lead, supported by Darshana, Sangeetha, Gautham Menon, and Rajendra Prasad. The film is produced by Sreenivasulu P, Vijay Donkada, and Sridhar Makkuva, with music composed by Gopi Sundar.
At a recent promotional event, Anupama made a refreshingly candid statement about the movie’s reviews. She revealed that the team neither has the budget nor the intention to manipulate critics or buy inflated ratings. “Any reviews for this movie will be genuine. So, only watch Paradha in theaters if the reviews are good. If not, feel free to skip it,” she said.
Her remarks underline an important reality of the film industry—when filmmakers focus on delivering quality content, they don’t need to fear reviews. For smaller films like Paradha, genuine audience reactions are the key to building momentum and driving footfalls.
By placing trust in the content and the audience, Anupama and her team are letting Paradha speak for itself, without unnecessary hype. If this strategy pays off, it could set a strong precedent for other small and mid-budget films that want to succeed on the strength of honest reviews and positive word-of-mouth.
