There continues to be considerable discussion around the political journey of Konidela Naga Babu, with many observers wondering whether the ambiguity lies in his political strategy or in the perception of his moves.
During the 2019 Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly election, Naga Babu contested from the Narasapuram constituency in West Godavari district. Despite the presence of a sizeable Kapu community in the region, he finished a distant third. That election also turned out to be a disappointing one for the Jana Sena Party, led by his brother Pawan Kalyan.
In the 2024 Indian general election, Naga Babu was initially expected to contest from the Anakapalle Lok Sabha constituency. However, the seat eventually went to the Bharatiya Janata Party as part of the alliance arrangements, leaving him out of the electoral contest. Later, in April 2025, he was nominated to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council as an MLC.
Even after becoming an MLC, speculation around his political future has continued. There are rumors that Pawan Kalyan may push for Naga Babu to be sent to the Rajya Sabha. If that happens, some political observers believe the Jana Sena leadership could even attempt to secure a Union Minister position for him, which would make him the first representative from the party at that level.
At the same time, Naga Babu has been making frequent visits to the Etcherla constituency in Srikakulam district. Recently, the Jana Sena Formation Day celebrations were also held there, further fueling speculation about his future plans.
Political watchers believe these visits indicate that Naga Babu might be preparing to contest from Etcherla in the 2029 elections. The constituency has a significant Kapu population, which could work in his favor. However, the seat was contested and won by the BJP in the previous election, meaning Jana Sena would have to negotiate with its alliance partner to secure it.
Interestingly, within less than a year of becoming an MLC, Naga Babu is already being linked to multiple possibilities—from a Rajya Sabha berth to a potential Assembly contest in 2029. Whether these developments reflect a well-planned political strategy or simply ongoing speculation remains to be seen.
