Gender inequality continues to be a pressing issue across the world, and the film industry is no exception. Despite the progress made, unequal treatment between male and female actors remains a reality that cannot be overlooked.
National Award-winning actress Kriti Sanon, who is currently among Bollywood’s leading stars, opened up about her experiences while being appointed as UNFPA India’s Honorary Ambassador of Gender Equality.
At the event, Kriti reflected on her personal journey, sharing how she grew up in a progressive household where her parents never restricted her or her sister because of their gender. She expressed gratitude for that freedom but also pointed out that her mother did not enjoy the same privilege while growing up.
Speaking about the film industry, Kriti highlighted subtle yet significant instances of inequality.
“It hasn’t happened too many times, but little things like the male actor getting a better car or a better room… It’s not about the car, but about not making me feel smaller because I’m a woman. Just make it equal,” she said.
Kriti further shared that she often notices assistant directors calling female actors first and then waiting for male actors to arrive on set. She makes it a point to address such practices, emphasizing the need to change mindsets rather than just follow outdated norms.
On the work front, Kriti was last seen in Do Patti. She is now gearing up for her upcoming films Tere Ishk Mein and Cocktail 2.
