In a major political development that has stirred controversy across Telangana, BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) has levelled serious allegations of financial impropriety against the Congress-led state government and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. The issue pertains to a controversial deforestation drive over an estimated 400 acres of land located near the premises of Hyderabad Central University (HCU).
Addressing the media, KTR accused the Telangana government of committing a financial fraud amounting to ₹10,000 crore by mortgaging the disputed land to ICICI Bank. According to KTR, the state government has no legal jurisdiction over the said land but proceeded to pledge it as collateral nonetheless.
“The Telangana government has indulged in a massive financial fraud led by its Chief Minister,” KTR alleged during an interaction with a national media outlet. He further claimed that the ICICI Bank sanctioned the loan without proper due diligence, possibly under political pressure. “This ₹10,000 crore is public money. This is something that cannot be taken lightly,” he emphasized.
KTR also stated his intention to escalate the matter to national financial regulatory authorities. “I am writing to the RBI Governor and to SEBI. There appears to be a quid pro quo arrangement between a BJP MP and the Chief Minister,” he said, suggesting a deeper political nexus behind the deal.
The allegations come amidst rising political tensions in the state and are expected to provoke a strong response from Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. With both the legal and political dimensions of the 400-acre land dispute now in the national spotlight, the controversy is unlikely to subside anytime soon.
Observers are closely watching how the state government will address the claims, especially given the potential ramifications for inter-party relations and public trust in the financial and administrative transparency of the current regime.
