Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K.T. Rama Rao took a jab at Rahul Gandhi following the BJP’s victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, sarcastically “congratulating” him for aiding the BJP’s win.
In a post on X, KTR remarked, “Congrats to Rahul Gandhi for winning the election for BJP, yet again! Well done.” His comment was in response to a supporter who shared a video clip of KTR’s interview during the Telangana Assembly elections in 2023.
KTR had previously stated that the Congress, under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership, could not stop the BJP at the national level. He argued that instead of targeting the BJP in states like Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar, Rahul Gandhi was more focused on defeating regional parties like BRS, which ultimately benefited the BJP.
In his earlier remarks, KTR had also described Narendra Modi as the “biggest karyakarta and asset” of the Prime Minister. He had claimed that strong regional leaders like his father, K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), Arvind Kejriwal, Mamata Banerjee, and M.K. Stalin were the ones actively challenging the BJP’s dominance, unlike Rahul Gandhi.
KTR’s sarcastic dig over the Delhi election results drew sharp criticism from Congress leaders, who accused the BRS of having a secret understanding with the BJP. Telangana Congress leader Komatireddy Venkat Reddy responded by stating that the BRS should take responsibility for the BJP’s rise in the state.
“We, the Congress Party, are fighters – we never give up, and we always bounce back, just like we did in Telangana. We would have congratulated you on your performance in the Parliament elections, but unfortunately, you ended up delivering zero seats for your own party while handing over eight to the BJP in Telangana. If anyone deserves credit for BJP’s strength in the state, it’s you,” said a Congress leader.
Meanwhile, Telangana state General Secretary Kota Neelima fired back at KTR, saying, “This is the inevitable future of BJP’s B-teams across the country, whether BRS or AAP. Dear KTR, everyone understands your anxiety.”
Congress leader Rohin Reddy from Hyderabad also took a dig at BRS, noting that its vote percentage in Telangana dropped from 40% to 15% while it failed to win even a single Lok Sabha seat.
“BRS gifting (8) Lok Sabha seats to BJP as part of a clandestine agreement, the people have set a record (per capita) of losing every deposit in Parliamentary elections. Failing as a governance model and now enjoying weightless politics. Reflect on your total irrelevance. For a change, be a little serious,” he posted.
