The Telugu film industry has been in a rough patch for the past few months, with very few films managing to draw audiences to the theatres — except for HIT 3 and Single. Now, Sekhar Kammula’s Kuberaa, starring Dhanush and Nagarjuna in the lead roles, appears set to break the trend, opening to positive reviews and strong word‑of‑mouth.
Released today, the film has been rated 3.25/5 by Gulte.com, with early overseas premiere reports also being favorable. Audiences have been particularly impressed by Dhanush’s emotionally charged performance and captivating screen presence.
Although some felt the editing was a bit choppy, viewers are reportedly leaving the theatre satisfied. Trade experts anticipate Kuberaa will perform well at the box office and potentially revive the Telugu film market.
With theatrical rights in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana capped at roughly Rs. 30 crore, and global rights estimated at Rs. 70 crore, Kuberaa needs to gross around Rs. 140 crore worldwide to break even. The film has already crossed the $400K mark in the United States. Its strong word‑of‑mouth and favorable reviews may help it overcome hurdles, although increased ticket prices in Andhra Pradesh could affect its run.
Produced by Suniel Narang and Puskur Ram Mohan Rao, Kuberaa also features Rashmika Mandanna and Jim Sarbh in pivotal roles, with music composed by Devi Sri Prasad.
