Kulman Ghising, renowned for his transformative role in ending Nepal’s long-standing electricity shortages, has officially been appointed as the country’s interim Prime Minister. Born in November 1970 in Bethan village, Ramechhap district, Ghising pursued electrical engineering on scholarship in India before completing postgraduate studies in Nepal, laying a strong technical foundation for his future leadership.

Beginning his career with the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), Ghising rose through the ranks due to his technical expertise, commitment, and problem-solving abilities. In 2016, as Managing Director of NEA, he spearheaded initiatives that effectively eliminated prolonged power outages, which had once lasted up to eighteen hours daily. Under his leadership, electricity was steadily restored to households and businesses nationwide, earning him widespread acclaim and the affectionate moniker “Light Man of Nepal.”

Reappointed to NEA in 2021, Ghising’s removal in early 2025 triggered nationwide protests, reflecting his immense popularity and public trust. A recognized technocrat rather than a traditional politician, he is celebrated for integrity, efficient administration, and delivering tangible results.

Now tasked with guiding Nepal through a period of political uncertainty, Ghising’s appointment as interim Prime Minister is seen as a move toward stability, transparency, and effective governance. His journey from a small village in Ramechhap to a national reformer highlights a legacy of dedication and competence, inspiring hope that the same clarity and purpose he brought to the nation’s energy sector will now illuminate the path for Nepal’s broader development challenges.
