Baahubali 2 is the biggest Indian blockbuster which has decimated every possible record in domestic market and set up enviable records that are hard to be broken by even Bollywood biggies. Despite all this glory, labor pains continue for the Rajamouli directorial in order to have a smooth release in China.
The film’s China release kept postponing from July. The makers had last planned to release the film in September and they even thought of flying Prabhas, Rajamouli, Rana and Anushka to China to promote the film. However, they reportedly backed off fearing comparisons with Aamir Khan’s ‘Dangal’ which had created a tsunami at China box office.
The latest update says that Baahubali 2 will be released in China in December this year. As of now, this looks like the most daring decision of the producers and it may prove their biggest mistake too. In December, Baahubali 2 will have to compete with 3 Hollywood biggies in China. It may be noted that China is a huge market for Hollywood films and they get wide releases and enjoy huge craze there.
The 3 big Hollywood releases in December are:
1. “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”- The latest film in the most successful and popular Hollywood sci-fi franchise. It is set to release on December 15.
2. “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle”: the reboot of “Jumanji”, one of the most successful films in 90s. The new films stars Dwayne Rock Johnson in lead role and it is set to release on December 20.
3. “The Greatest Showman” – Stars Hugh Jackman, one of the top stars of Hollywood.
Baahubali 2 is already carrying huge pressure of performing well in China and overtaking Dangal’s worldwide gross. The failure of Baahubali first part in China pose questions on the prospects of part 2. Adding to this, now the December release and the unavoidable clash with 3 Hollywood biggies.
