Former Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal, and a member of the TDP, has been a successful politician throughout his career. However, since the bifurcation of the united state of Andhra Pradesh into Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, the man has been staying away from politics, as per his word. He strongly opposed the bifurcation of the state and even lashed out at those who supported the bifurcation and attacked him in the parliament, whenever the topic of Telangana came up.
Lagadapati had said that he would never contest in the elections if the state was bifurcated, and has kept his word, by staying away from politics, and not contesting in the 2014 and 2019 elections. Lagadapati had predicted that the TDP would be victorious in the 2019 elections, but the YSRCP won with a massive majority. Ever since then, no one has heard from the man till now.
For quite some time now, there have been rumours that Lagadapati is planning a re-entry into politics. Given that the current Vijayawada MP candidate, Kesineni Nani, has earned a less than impressive reputation for himself, it is believed that the TDP would vouch for, and want Lagadapati to be its Vijayawada MP candidate, given that he’s still got a hold over the voters of the area. On the other hand, Lagadapati neither confirming nor denying these rumours makes it seem as though his political re-entry may not be that far fetched.
