Rana Daggubati made his acting debut in Telugu cinema with Leader, a bold political drama directed by Sekhar Kammula. While the film did not achieve major commercial success at the time, it has since gained cult status. Over the years, fans have repeatedly urged Sekhar Kammula to revisit the story with a sequel. Even Rana has confirmed that Leader 2 is on the cards. Now, discussions about the project have resurfaced once again.
Looking back, many believe that if Leader were remade today as a Pan-India film, it could be a game-changer for Indian cinema. In a recent interview, Sekhar Kammula hinted at the possibility of Leader 2, highlighting how corruption and political dynamics have evolved over the years.
“When I wrote Leader, mentioning ‘lakhs of crores’ felt shocking. Today, that figure seems insignificant in political discourse,” he remarked. He expressed his interest in exploring contemporary social and political issues from a fresh perspective.
Currently, Sekhar Kammula is focused on his upcoming film Kubera, starring Dhanush, Nagarjuna, and Rashmika Mandanna. Once the film is released, he is expected to shift his attention to Leader 2.
