Yet another irreplaceable loss for the southern film fraternity. The legendary music director who enthralled the music and film lovers in over 1200 films, MS Viswanathan passed away at 4:30 this morning at a private hospital in Chennai. MS, also fondly called as Mellisai Mannar (King of Light Music), was suffering from breathing related complications. MS was 87 and survived by four sons and three daughters.
Last month, MS’ family admitted the musical luminary to the Fortis Malar Hospital, after MS complained of breathing problems. Doctors treated him in ICU and he condition started deteriorating since a week. SP Balasubramanyam and Ilayaraja were some of the friends of MS who visited him in the hospital.
In a career that longed nearly 61 years, MS worked with three CMs of Tamil Nadu, MG Ramachandran, Karunanidhi and Jayalalithaa. MS is popular among the Telugu film lovers through Kamal Haasan’s films like Maro Charithra, Akali Rajyam and anthuleni Katha, to name a few. The entire film fraternity down south is deeply immersed in utter shock.
