Seems like last Friday’s Hollywood retreat is going to spin magic at the box office as ‘The Lion King’ is being enormously liked by kids and parents. Family audiences have rushed to theatres big time across India as the figures from the box office suggest.
For a Hollywood movie in India, The Lion King has the third biggest opening after Avengers movies. After collecting close to 20-23 crores nett on Sunday, the film posted almost 50+ crores collection in its first weekend. And with no other biggies ready to threaten its presence at the box office, it may continue its legacy for the next couple of weeks, pushing itself into the 100 crore club.
The Lion King got released in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, with Nani and Ravi Shankar giving voices for Simba and Mufasa in the Telugu version. The film got well received at multiplexes with almost 14% jump in the Sunday collection from what it collected on Saturday.
Though the story of The Lion King is known to everybody as the same film got made by Disney couple of times, this time they have come up with a realistic-looking version of the film like Jungle Book and that’s what impressed the audiences.
