Kalki 2 to Begin When Planets Align, Says Nag Ashwin
When will Kalki 2 begin? According to director Nag Ashwin, only when all eight planets in the solar system align! While his recent remark at a Chennai event was made in jest, it cleverly underscores the complexity of launching a sequel to a blockbuster like Kalki.
Responding to a question about the commencement of Kalki 2, Nag Ashwin quipped, “I don’t know, actually. We’ll find out. The last time three or four planets aligned, Kalki 1 happened. Maybe when seven or eight planets align, Kalki 2 will take off!”
His tongue-in-cheek comment shines light on the enormous scale and logistical challenges of a pan-world film. With Kalki delivering a sensational performance at the global box office, expectations for the sequel are sky-high—bringing with them immense pressure.
The primary hurdle now lies in aligning the schedules of an ensemble cast that includes Prabhas, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone, and Amitabh Bachchan. Coordinating dates for such megastars is no easy feat and demands meticulous planning.
Beyond scheduling, Kalki 2 also demands extensive pre-production, complex VFX work, and collaboration with international post-production teams. Even routine issues like shooting permissions can become major roadblocks for a film of this magnitude.
In essence, while Nag Ashwin used humor to deflect a definitive answer, it’s clear that Kalki 2 is a behemoth in the making—one that will begin its journey only when every star, quite literally, aligns.
