It appears that Telugu Desam Party general secretary and Andhra Pradesh IT minister Nara Lokesh is making a conscious effort to maintain warm relations with Jana Sena Party president and deputy chief minister Pawan Kalyan, seemingly to ensure his acceptance when the time comes to succeed his father, N Chandrababu Naidu. At every available opportunity, Lokesh has been seen going out of his way to keep Pawan Kalyan in good spirits, displaying visible respect and personal affection.
From the day of the swearing-in ceremony—where Lokesh touched Pawan Kalyan’s feet—to more recent public interactions in which he warmly embraced the Jana Sena chief, Lokesh has consistently projected deep regard for his coalition partner. This approach is believed to serve a dual purpose: reinforcing the message to both TDP and Jana Sena cadres that the alliance is strong and harmonious, while also pre-empting any possible resistance from Pawan Kalyan if Naidu were to name Lokesh as the next chief ministerial face.
Lokesh further underlined this bond during an interactive session with students at JNTU, Kakinada, where he spoke emotionally about his relationship with Pawan Kalyan and recalled the support extended to his family during a difficult phase. Responding to questions about his political rapport with the Jana Sena chief, Lokesh said he first met Pawan Kalyan shortly after the 2014 election results, when Chandrababu Naidu invited him for dinner, marking their first personal interaction.
However, Lokesh said their bond truly deepened in September 2023, when Chandrababu Naidu was arrested and lodged in Rajahmundry jail. During that challenging period, Pawan Kalyan stood firmly by their family. Lokesh recalled how the Jana Sena chief’s words and support had a lasting emotional impact on him, saying he would remember it for a lifetime.
Sharing a reflective message with students, Lokesh remarked that many people stay close when times are good, but only a few stand by you during hardship, and those are the ones who matter the most. His remarks once again highlighted the strong personal rapport between Lokesh and Pawan Kalyan, which continues to be a crucial factor in holding together the current alliance government in Andhra Pradesh.
