During the promotions of Devara, NTR revealed that he was in discussions with director Vetrimaaran, and the director himself confirmed they were planning to collaborate soon. However, recent updates suggest that this project isn’t happening in the near future. Vetrimaaran has now confirmed his next two films, both of which will see him reuniting with actor Soori.

In a surprising turn of events, Vetrimaaran is also working on a new film with Dhanush, but the disappointing part is that it isn’t Vada Chennai 2. The original Vada Chennai, released in 2018, became a massive success, eventually becoming the highest-grossing film for Dhanush at the time. Following its success, Vetrimaaran had confirmed in 2022 that a sequel was in the works.

However, as Dhanush moved on to other projects, Vetrimaaran shifted his focus to the Vidudhala franchise. Recently, the producers of the Vidudhala series announced two new projects under Vetrimaaran’s direction. One of these will star Dhanush, while the other will feature Soori.

It remains unclear whether the project featuring Dhanush is Vada Chennai 2. Notably, the first Vada Chennai was produced by Wunderbar Films, Lyca Productions, and Grass Root Film Company. Despite the anticipation for a sequel, it appears both Dhanush and Vetrimaaran are currently taking different creative paths before revisiting their iconic collaboration.
