Rashmika Mandanna Draws Flak Over Kodava Roots Remark

Actress Rashmika Mandanna, popularly known as the “National Crush,” has come under fire for a recent statement regarding her cultural background. In an interview with journalist Barkha Dutt on Mojo Story, Rashmika claimed she was the first person from the Coorg (Kodava) community to enter the film industry.

“In the Coorg community, nobody had ever entered the film industry. I think I’m the first one. People were extremely judgmental,” Rashmika shared, recounting the initial reactions from her family when she began her acting journey.

However, the statement didn’t go down well with many, especially members of the Kodava community. Netizens quickly pointed out that several actors from the region, including popular Kannada actress Prema and Bollywood actor Gulshan Devaiah, have been part of the industry long before Rashmika’s debut.

Critics accused her of being unaware of her own heritage and disregarding the contributions of previous artists from the Kodava community. Some online users labeled her comments as “ignorant” and “careless,” while others expressed disappointment over her perceived lack of acknowledgment of her roots.

Responding to the controversy, actress Prema offered a composed reaction in an interview with Kodagu Express, saying, “What is there for me to say? The Kodava community knows the truth. You should ask her about what she meant.”

The episode has ignited a broader discussion on cultural awareness and responsibility among public figures. While Rashmika has not yet issued a clarification, the incident has sparked intense debate on social media and among members of her own community.
