Luxembourg has witnessed an unprecedented rise in Schengen visa applications, with a total of 30,677 requests filed in 2024 — marking a 173% increase from the 11,227 applications submitted in 2023, according to the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs’ latest annual report.
This sharp growth underscores Luxembourg’s rising profile as an attractive destination for international travellers, students, and professionals. The Ministry attributed the surge to the country’s growing appeal as a hub for study, work, and long-term residence.
Family Reunification and Tourism Lead Demand
Among the various categories, family reunification accounted for the highest number of applications, with 9,009 submissions. Tourist visa requests followed closely, reaching 8,038 — a notable rise that reflects Luxembourg’s increasing popularity among global travellers.
Other significant categories included business visas (5,600 applications) and long-stay visas (4,624 applications), indicating a broader diversification in the profiles of those seeking entry into the country.
Indian Nationals Top List of Visa Recipients
Indian citizens were the largest recipients of Luxembourg’s Schengen visas in 2024, with 5,495 visas issued. They were followed by nationals from Turkey (3,373 visas), China (3,216), Morocco (1,905), and Russia (1,378). This trend highlights Luxembourg’s growing ties with key non-EU countries, particularly in South Asia and Asia-Pacific regions.
High Volume of Applications Processed in New Delhi
Luxembourg’s consulate in New Delhi processed the highest number of visa applications, handling 4,058 requests. The consulate in Ankara followed with 3,299 applications, while the embassy in Beijing managed 1,951 applications. The Ministry noted that the increase in Chinese applications was facilitated by improved air connectivity and enhanced cooperation with external service providers.
Overall, the data reflects Luxembourg’s emerging status as a preferred European destination for travel, business, and relocation, driven by strategic international engagement and expanding global outreach.
