The Telangana political scene is abuzz with controversy over the alleged illegal import of luxury cars by businessman Basarath Khan. Reports suggest that some vehicles in the convoys of KTR and Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy were imported by Khan, who is now under the DRI scanner on charges of smuggling and undervaluing high-end cars.
Meanwhile, in Kerala, the Customs Preventive Wing intensified its nationwide operation, Mission Numkhor, targeting high-profile individuals suspected of being involved in illegal luxury car imports. As part of this drive, officials conducted searches at the residences of Malayalam actors Dulquer Salmaan and Prithviraj Sukumaran in Kochi.
Raids were carried out at nearly 30 locations across Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Kuttippuram, and Thrissur. Investigations have revealed 10–15 violations, including forgeries on the Parivahan portal of the Motor Vehicles Department.
Officials further suspect that new luxury cars were illegally routed and imported into India as used vehicles through Bhutan, highlighting the scale and sophistication of the smuggling racket.
