Usually, with sequel and franchise films, we often notice that the second part performs better at the box office and garners a stronger reception than the first. However, that isn’t the case with the Telugu comedy franchise Mad.
The first installment was a resounding success at the ticket counters and later made a solid mark in the OTT space as well. It was hailed as one of the better-made comedy films in recent Telugu cinema, praised for its freshness and humor.
In contrast, the second part, which released in theatres last month, failed to recreate the magic. It opened to largely underwhelming reviews and generated only mediocre word of mouth. Despite the massive goodwill created by the first part, the sequel couldn’t capitalize on it. Many viewers felt the sequel lacked the originality, energy, and comic timing that made the first film special.
Following its recent OTT debut on Netflix, the feedback has been largely similar. Viewers who watched it online have been vocal about their disappointment, stating that the first part remains far superior. The general opinion is that the makers did not take enough care in crafting the sequel, resulting in a lackluster follow-up to an otherwise celebrated first film.
