A Durban court in South Africa has sentenced Ashish Lata Ramgobin to seven years imprisonment for allegedly defrauding a businessman. She was found guilty of defrauding businessman Maharajan for Rs.3.23 crore. The businessman paid Maharaj Ashish Lata an advance of Rs.3.23 crore (6.6 lakh Rands) to Lata Ramgobin to pay import customs duties for a consignment from India.

The businessman gets a share in the profits. However, it was proved that Ashish Lata Ramgobin had no consignment and had created fake bills and cheated him. Recently, a Durban court gave its final verdict in the case, which has been ongoing since 2015. Ashish Lata Rangobin is the daughter of the famous constitutional rights activist Elia Gandhi and the late Meva Ramgobind.
