Anil Sunkara Reveals Truth Behind Box Office Collection Posters

Veteran Telugu film producer Anil Sunkara recently made a candid revelation about the reality behind box office collection posters in the film industry. He explained that such posters are largely used as a publicity tool rather than an accurate representation of a film’s actual profits.

Citing the example of Dookudu, the Mahesh Babu-starrer he produced, Anil Sunkara revealed that during the film’s success celebrations, posters claiming a 100-crore gross collection were released to create buzz. However, he clarified that gross collections do not reflect the producer’s real earnings.

According to him, while Dookudu did achieve around 100 crore in gross collections, the producer’s share was only about 40 crore. Since most audiences are unaware of the difference between gross collections and producer share, such large figures help generate hype and enhance a film’s market appeal.

Anil Sunkara further noted that many producers adopted this approach as a publicity stunt, which worked effectively in the short term. However, over time, the strategy began to backfire in certain cases. As a result, he revealed that he has personally stopped releasing box office collection posters for his films.
