Manchu Lakshmi Prasanna is often seen as a cheerful and fun-loving personality. At film events and during media interactions, she usually comes across as very jovial. But recently, people got to see a different side of her — how she reacts when she feels hurt or disrespected.
In a YouTube channel interview, a particular question triggered her anger. The question, directed at her, was not only offensive but also discriminatory toward women, as it mocked their choice of clothing. A senior journalist asked Lakshmi why she was wearing such outfits “at this age.” This upset her deeply, and right there in the interview, she gave a fitting reply. Lakshmi questioned whether the same would ever be asked to a male actor, pointing out the gender bias that exists in society and the film industry.
While many thought the issue would end there, Lakshmi wasn’t ready to let it go. Determined to set an example, she filed a complaint against the journalist with the Film Chamber and decided to escalate the matter to the Women’s Commission as well. She even released a press note demanding a public apology from the journalist.
Since there was no response, Lakshmi became more serious about the matter. Expressing her frustration in a newspaper interview, she said that the journalist not only failed to show regret but even remarked that the controversy had made the interview go viral. She strongly criticized the way some YouTube channels treat film personalities in the name of interviews and said she was waiting to see what action the Film Chamber would take.
