Manchu Vishnu left no stone unturned in promoting his ambitious mythological action drama Kannappa. With an ensemble cast that included big names like Prabhas, Mohanlal, and Akshay Kumar, the film managed to grab national attention, creating significant buzz across Bollywood and other regional industries ahead of its release.
However, despite the pre-release hype, Kannappa fell short at the box office, wrapping up its theatrical run with just over ₹30 crore.
In the aftermath of this financial setback, there is now speculation that Vishnu is gearing up for yet another mythological project. While Kannappa didn’t deliver the commercial success he hoped for, it did give Vishnu wider recognition beyond the Telugu-speaking states. This visibility has strengthened his personal brand, even if the movie itself underperformed.
That said, pulling off another large-scale mythological film may not be easy. For Kannappa, Prabhas and Mohanlal reportedly worked without remuneration as a gesture of respect for Mohan Babu, and Akshay Kumar came on board for a goodwill-driven collaboration, though for a substantial fee.
Replicating that same level of star support and goodwill in a new venture will be a formidable challenge. Without a similar star-studded lineup, even with financial backing from his other business ventures, creating the same buzz and credibility for another mythological project will be a tough task for Vishnu.
