Argentina’s World Cup–winning captain Lionel Messi is set to land in New Delhi at 10:45 AM, and the national capital is gearing up for a day packed with high security, elite gatherings, and star-studded interactions.
Messi and his entourage will be staying at The Leela Palace, Chanakyapuri, where an entire floor has been reserved exclusively for them. The team will occupy the Presidential Suites, priced between ₹3.5 lakh and ₹7 lakh per night. Hotel staff have reportedly been instructed to maintain strict confidentiality throughout the stay.
The commute from the airport to the hotel may take around 30 minutes, but security around The Leela Palace is anything but routine. After witnessing huge crowds during Messi’s earlier India tours, authorities have converted the area into a high-security zone, effectively turning the hotel into a fortress.
A closed-door meet-and-greet has been organised at the hotel for select corporate and VIP guests. Access to this exclusive interaction comes at a premium, with some corporates said to be paying up to ₹1 crore for the opportunity to meet the football icon.
Messi’s schedule includes engagement with Indian sporting greats—cricketers, Olympic medallists, and Paralympic champions. He will also visit the Arun Jaitley Stadium for a football clinic and a special interaction with a group of Indian cricketers.
Later in the day, Messi will head to Purana Qila for a grand event hosted by Adidas. At the historic Old Fort, he is expected to meet top Indian sports stars including Rohit Sharma, Paralympic javelin gold medallist Sumit Antil, boxing world champion Nikhat Zareen, and Olympic high jump medallist Nishad Kumar.
