Meta is reportedly joining forces with Italian luxury fashion house Prada to develop a new pair of AI-powered smart glasses, signaling the tech giant’s growing ambition to expand its wearable technology footprint beyond its existing partnership with EssilorLuxottica. The development, first reported by CNBC, has not yet been confirmed with an official launch timeline.
If realized, the collaboration with Prada would mark Meta’s first major move into the luxury fashion segment of the smart eyewear market. It reflects a strategic shift from mainstream appeal—exemplified by the successful Ray-Ban Meta glasses—to a more premium, fashion-forward offering aimed at style-conscious consumers.
Meta’s current wearables have been developed in close partnership with eyewear conglomerate EssilorLuxottica, which owns popular brands like Ray-Ban and Oakley. The Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses have seen strong sales, blending stylish frames with built-in cameras and voice-activated AI features.
Earlier this week, Meta also teased a new collaboration with Oakley, another EssilorLuxottica brand, expected to launch soon with a price point around $360, according to Bloomberg and CNBC.
While Prada is not owned by EssilorLuxottica, the two companies have maintained a longstanding manufacturing partnership. Their recently renewed agreement could open the door for seamless integration of Meta’s technology into Prada’s eyewear designs.
A potential Meta-Prada smart glasses line would represent a bold fusion of advanced AI capabilities with high-end fashion, marking a new frontier in wearable innovation that caters equally to tech enthusiasts and luxury consumers.
