Speculation is circulating in the national capital, New Delhi, that a major reshuffle of the Narendra Modi-led Union Cabinet may take place in the coming weeks.
According to reports, a significant overhaul of ministerial portfolios is being discussed within political circles. Sources indicate that Union ministers G. Kishan Reddy, who currently handles Coal and Mines, and Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, who is in charge of Civil Aviation, could see changes in their responsibilities.
There is also speculation that Ram Mohan Naidu may be assigned the Rural Development Ministry, a portfolio once held by his late father, K. Yerran Naidu, adding a political and emotional dimension to the discussion.
Another name being mentioned is Pemmasani Chandrasekhar, currently serving as Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications. He is reportedly in contention for an independent charge if the reshuffle materialises.
Additionally, reports suggest that Harish Balayogi, son of former Lok Sabha Speaker GMC Balayogi, and BJP MP Daggubati Purandeswari could also be considered for inclusion in the Union Cabinet.
At the national level, there is further speculation that several senior ministers, including Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, may also witness changes in their roles as part of a wider restructuring exercise.
Political observers are closely watching developments in Bihar as well, where Chief Minister Nitish Kumar—recently elected to the Rajya Sabha—is reportedly being considered for a potential shift in responsibilities. There is speculation that he could be assigned the Agriculture Ministry, which he previously held during the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government.
Sources suggest that the reshuffle could take place either in the first week of April or after the completion of ongoing electoral processes in some states. There is also talk that the government may extend the current Parliament session to facilitate the passage of key legislation, including the Women’s Reservation Bill and the Delimitation Bill.
