Modi Government All Set To Launch Historic Public Wi-Fi Access Scheme

The centre led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to start a historic scheme which is said to be revolutionalise the tech world. The Union Cabinet has also given its green signal for the scheme.

The Union Cabinet chaired by PM Modi gave its nod to Prime Minister’s Wi-Fi Access Network Initiative (PM-WANI) scheme, which aims at providing free wireless internet at public places in the country.

In a series of tweets, Narendra Modi lauded the PM-WANI scheme and said the scheme will be historic and the scheme will ease doing business and shopkeepers will also be provided with a Wi-Fi facility.

‘Historic PM-WANI (Wi-Fi Access Network Interface) scheme that has been cleared by the Cabinet today will revolutionise the tech world and significantly improve WiFi availability across the length and breath of India. It will further ‘Ease of Doing Business’ and ‘Ease of Living,’ Modi tweeted

‘The scheme would enable our small shopkeepers to provide WiFi service. This will boost incomes as well as ensure our youth gets seamless internet connectivity. It will also strengthen our Digital India mission,’ he added.

Under the PM-WANI scheme, public data centers will be set up across the nation which will help in expanding the WIFI network in the country to offer free internet in public places.

A specialized application will be developed by the centre, which enables the users to register themselves and get the details of the nearly public Wi-Fi network spots.

Experts believe that the new Wi-Fi scheme will lend a helping hand for doing business. UPI payments and digital payments will also rise once the free public wifi facility is opened to the public.
