Mohanlal Faces Legal Setback Over Ivory Tusks

Malayalam superstar Mohanlal is currently embroiled in a legal dispute concerning two pairs of ivory tusks kept at his residence. The Kerala High Court recently canceled the ownership certificates issued to him, raising questions about the validity of the government permissions granted earlier.

The matter dates back to 2012, when officials discovered the tusks during a search of Mohanlal’s home, leading to an FIR under the Wildlife Protection Act. Mohanlal maintained that the tusks came from deceased elephants and that he had obtained all necessary government approvals.

Recently, Mohanlal sought to have the case quashed, but the court rejected the plea, noting irregularities in the permissions issued by authorities. The Principal Chief Conservator of Forests’ certificates from January and April 2016 were annulled, along with related government orders.

While the court did not directly accuse Mohanlal of violating the law, the ruling highlights the strict enforcement of wildlife protection regulations and reinforces that celebrity status offers no immunity. The case serves as a reminder of the legal complexities surrounding possession of protected wildlife items.
